Neck pain can be debilitating and affect the quality of life. In many cases, the cause of this pain can be ligamentous instability and poor posture, which can make traditional treatments less effective. However, regenerative medicine in the form of PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) or stem cell therapy can offer relief. To optimize the effectiveness of these treatments, it’s essential to undergo prehabilitation or “Prehab” which prepares the body for treatment. The Healthy Posture Club (HPC) offers a Prehab program specifically tailored for individuals with neck pain prescribed regenerative medicine.
In full disclosure, much of what we have learned in this area is a result of our referral relationship and patient collaboration with Centeno-Schultz Clinic.
What is Prehab?
Prehabilitation, or “Prehab,” is a proactive approach that involves conditioning the body before undergoing a medical procedure. In this post, we’re talking specifically about how it helps with preparing your body for a successful regenerative medicine procedures – such as stem cell injections and/or PRP injections. The goal is to improve the patient’s physical and functional abilities, leading to a better post-procedure recovery. For neck pain patients, this means conditioning the neck to function from neutral spine alignment, which is crucial for long-term relief and prevention of further injury.
Most physicians performing regenerative medicine offer a rehabilitation program for post-procedure physical therapy. We specialize in digital prehab neutral spine conditioning. We are happy to help you follow your post-procedure rehabilitation protocols if you are unable to access adequate physical therapy services. Your rehabilitation specialist should have special training in the area of regenerative medicine.
Why Prehab before Regenerative Medicine for Neck Pain?
Technology is wreaking havoc on our necks. Going into a regenerative medicine procedure with forward head posture will place stress on the ligaments and can compromise your results. Prehab focused on restoring healthy neck posture will lay down a foundation for long-term healing and injury prevention.
You cannot improve posture with a few exercises, it takes a system of neutral spine conditioning that addresses all aspects of your daily routine including sleep. The muscles that keep your skull in neutral position on the atlas will never strengthen if you spend most your day in forward head posture. As a result, any procedure to strengthen the ligaments will have limited long-term benefits without pairing it with neutral spine conditioning.
The anatomy of the upper cervical spine is complicated and the relationship between the muscles and ligaments can be confusing. Please watch this video for an illustration that breaks the relationship down in a simple to understand manner.
